Happy New Year! If you want to make a New Year’s resolution, now is the time. Long-time Bay Area resident and professional make-up and hair artist, Andrea Schutter says she can change your life and perceptions with the stroke of her airbrush. Her brush has touched the faces of actors such as Tom Hanks to presidents of the United States and CEOs of major oil and gas companies.
A student from O’Connell Preparatory School in Galveston, Schutter is a master of air brush art. Schutter’s art started as water color and developed into stained glass. The logistical placement of shape and color soon evolved into another art form. Currently, her favorite medium is the human skin. She loves transforming the every day person into the extraordinary. “From beautifying someone for a wedding or going all out like an Avatar,” Schutter said, she revels in any body-painting transformation.
She stated, “Color excites me.” Her body painting evokes movement and majesty. It’s life-like art consisting of the bone structure and skin. “It’s a live canvas,” she added.
Schutter is most proud of showing people how to accentuate their best qualities. “It’s the most awarding part of my job,” she said.
Schutter also added that it is much more difficult to paint on a 3-D subject such as person than canvas. She said whether it’s the face or the entire body, she strives to make her subjects comfortable and feel good about themselves.
When it comes to everyday make-up artistry, Schutter shared how much she loves to show people how to accentuate their best qualities. She boasted, “It’s so empowering to build confidence in others.”
Her client list is varied from Texan’s Quarterback Matt Shaub’s commercial endorsements, to Halloween party-goers wanting award-winning costumes, to brides wanting to look their most beautiful on their special day.
