Lakewood Yacht Club Sailing Director Marek Valasek has announced that the club will be hosting a series of six, one week-long Bay Access sailing clinics for beginners this summer.
“These clinics are designed for children ages 7 to 18 years of age who have little or no sailing experience,” Valasek explained, “and are open to non-club members as well as members.”
Participants will learn basic sailing skills, water safety, seamanship and team building. Lakewood has trained and accredited coaches and instructors who will be emphasizing safe and fun sailing education. The program will use Optimists, Club 420’s, and Lasers.
Bay Access is a not-for-profit charitable organization that promotes youth and adult amateur sailing. The fee of $175 per week will include professional instruction, sailboat and life jacket. Clinics will begin on June 24 and continue on week days through August 9, running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Simultaneous clinics will take place for those who are 7 through 12 years of age, and 13 through 18 years of age.
