The Bay Area is a tight community. If you don’t know someone, chances are you know someone who knows that person. This is what makes us all related – like a big family. Well, one of our own was in a major accident that resulted in a portion of his left leg to be amputated.

On October 17, Matt “Scootch” Appelby, the bass player for The Grizzly Band, was struck by a vehicle while assisting a friend with car trouble on the side of the road in Louisiana. He was headed to a motorcycle event and this accident was through no fault of his own. The League City native has had more than four surgeries since this time; including the amputation and its follow-ups, procedures to close up skin rips, and also skin grafts.

Friends and family have been organizing a “Will Play For Scootch” benefit set to begin at noon on Saturday, December 12 at Ronnie’s Ice House located at 4355 FM 517 in Dickinson. Join Scootch’s extended musician family as they rally around a friend in need and “do what we can for a guy who would do anything for us!”

In addition to the musical entertainment, there will be drinks, food, and vendor auctions. Check out the benefit’s event page on Facebook for the latest information; or to volunteer at or donate to the event.
