Space Shuttle enroute to Clear Lake

May 24, 2012 05:53PM ● By Betsey Ennis

The high-fidelity space shuttle is on its way from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to Space Center Houston. The barge departed for Space Center Houston, NASA Johnson Space Center’s official visitor center, in the early morning hours on May 24. The model was built in Apopka, Fla., by Guard-Lee and installed at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in 1993.  The model is expected to arrive in Houston June 1, welcomed with a free public event on the shores of Clear Lake that afternoon. On Sunday, June 3, it will arrive at Space Center Houston, its final destination, where it eventually will become part of a unique display telling the story of the Space Shuttle’s achievements and the nationwide team that made them possible.
