LOOSENOTES - 2011 IN REVIEW

This year brought us the return of I.D.R. on the SCENE first appearing at the Cockeyed Seagull and everywhere since. Alternative/Industrial rock thrived in the area with the September to Remember at Big Ben's Tavern.
BIG AIR - Melissa Wolfe of Madigan takes a temporary leave of absence causing a Six Car Pileup. Ski jumping Shawn Pritchard (Clear Lake's version of the Flying Tomato) takes the mic and takes to the air.
NEW STOPS ON THE LOOSENOTES BEAT in 2011 - Roadhouse 146, Palapas, Tequila Mia's, Allegria, Clear Creek Winery, Big Ben's Tavern, Cabo's, Union Station, Crazy Al's Swamp Shack, Noah's Ark & Jackie B's come onboard the live music SCENE.
GUITAR TONE MONSTER OF THE YEAR - Hands down to David Madigan for consistently dialing in an EVH sound that sounds like EVH should sound.

MEGAHOST - This past year, the folks at Jackie's Brickhouse firmly established a wholesome presence on the SCENE. The jury is still out--Is this a dining place with great entertainment for all ages or is this an all ages entertainment complex with good food? Either way, it's working! Previous MegaHost Mention winners include T-Bone Tom's for hosting the annual Kemah Mardis Gras Post Parade Party and the Kemah Toys for Tot's Pub Krawl. Next year's front runner is Big Ben's Tavern for successfully hosting the Jason Danford Birthday Crawfish Blowout and the September to Remember without missing a beat.
IN MEMORY - Mean Gene Kelton and John Prince get their calls from the Rock & Roll heaven. A massive community turnout responds after Tina Montana gets called home.
"SO, WHICH ONE KICKED THE FIELD GOAL?" - Budweiser Clydesdales make an appearance in Kemah to the joy of many beer & horse lovers. We never got an answer to our question but did enjoy a fresh Budweiser.
FIT TO BE SCENE - Nothing is more aesthetic than seeing individuals giving their all and which has been most of what we cover. Happy to say that sports just happens to be another one of our many interests and this year, we checked out the local hockey action at the Space City Ice Rink and declare it the "coolest sport on the planet". We also joined up with many partaking of the League City Village Festival's Safari Run as well as the Houston Mud Run benefitting the fight against MS. Going to the doctor is a pain -- Staying fit is "cool". Live on!!!
FAVORITE MUSIC PATIO - We have a tie here between Cockeyed Seagull and the Zone 504. The Zone has a mayor for a neighhbor and the Seagull has the Egrets. Both have great patio music, crawfish and spirits. Cheers!

All-A-Borde Guitars Strings & Sailboat Things Music Tour Kicks off at Cabos for a 33 show tour along the Texas Gulf.
The 2010 Texas Buzz Band of the Year, From Guts to Glory, follows the ranks of local bands finding fame and fortune across the region. New acts ready to be discovered along with a steady stream of quality national shows grace the Clear Lake area, courtesy of the folks at The Scout Bar.
GOOD MOJO HANGOUT - This year goes to Katie's for hosting the most number of benefit events year in and year out *plus* the area's most consistent lineups of rock, R&B & soul *plus* serving up an awesome melt-in-your-mouth brisket *plus* some of the finest friendliest service in the area. Cheers!

MENTIONS OF THANKS - Hear! Hear! Kudos & props to the many many musicians who contribute to the many worthy causes happening in the area. ON THE FLIP SIDE -- Every so often, we check out the flip side of the SCENE to see what's happening. Along the way, we dropped in and enjoyed live music with the Bay Area Bluegrass Association. Mundo Neuvo at the Texas Art Alliance Clear Lake center, and the Space Center Intermediate Orchestra. Funny how easy it is to find live music practically everywhere on The SCENE!
